On Sunday, May 1, 29 undergraduate and 17 graduate students in ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp's
were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the highest national recognition a student in business can receive at a school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB-International).
Invitations to join Fairfield's chapter of the honor society were extended to junior and senior Dolan School of Business students, and graduating master's students in the school on the basis of academic excellence and integrity, according to Mark Ligas, associate professor of marketing and chapter president. The ceremony at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp inducted the top 10 percent of students in the Dolan School's junior class, the top 10 percent of students in the senior class, and the top 20 percent of students in the various business graduate programs (MBA, M.S. in Accounting, M.S. in Finance).
"It is the highest honor for a business student," said Dr. Ligas, who inducted the students with Cathy Giapponi, associate professor of management, the chapter secretary/treasurer. The inductees were Spenser Allaway, Stephen Baillargeon, Gregory Burke, Stefan Capobianco, Aaron Chan, Leandra Charsky, Michelle Cote, Kathryn Gargiulo, Breena Goldberg, Rachel Gould, Alice Guglielmoni, Kelsey Holland, Justin McWaid, Stefanie Minuto, Kaitlyn Moran, Phat Nguyen, Angela Occidentale, Kelley O'Connor, Michael Pagliuco, Arthur Paladino, Robert Perla, Margo Priaulx, Michael Ready, Claudia Schupbach, Katelyn Shields, Alexa-Leigh Cognetta, Megan Kimmins, Lauren Masini, Ryan Mauri, Michael Caggiano, Keiko Castaneda, Mary Freeland, Stefanie Hinnenkamp, Janet Huetteman, Timothy Kiernan, Mark Krosse, Renne L'Heureux, Kathryn MacDonald, Tara Merlone, Hugo Mouta, Karl Muth, Caroline Scherbarth, Colleen Tycz, Jessica Viner, Minh le Vu, and Matthew Walters.
Chapter Honoree inductee was Robert M. McMahon, senior managing director, GE Capital Americas and a 1987 graduate of Fairfield. He delivered a keynote speech at the event that immediately followed, the Dolan School of Business Awards, where a number of both undergraduate and graduate students in the business school were honored for their achievements.
The events were especially poignant to Norm Solomon, Ph.D., dean of the Dolan School of Business, who is returning to the faculty. "As a lifetime member I hope to continue to be involved even as I pass the baton as dean," he said. "BGS is a great organization recognizing true academic excellence. It is always a highlight of the year encouraging and honoring students who have raised the bar in the study of business at Fairfield."
