New $10,000 scholarships

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp has created a new scholarship, worth $10,000 a year, to be awarded to outstanding students, starting in the fall. The students selected will also receive a research stipend of $1,000 for the summer following their junior year, a guaranteed internship and a personal computer for use during their tenure at the university.

Entitled the University Fellows Scholarship, it will be granted to up to 20 students and requires students to demonstrate a strong commitment to academics, citizenship and public service.

Candidates for the scholarship must have an SAT score of at least 1250 or an ACT composite test score of 28 and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class.

The university also increased the value of its Presidential Scholarship from $7,000 a year to $8,500. This scholarship was awarded last year to 30 incoming students based on SAT scores of at least 1200 or a composite ACT of 27 and a ranking in the top 10 percent of the class. The Presidential Scholarship carries with it guaranteed internships and a summer research stipend of $500.

In addition, the Deans' Scholarship of $3,000 a year is awarded based on high achievement in academic disciplines such as the arts, science, community service or leadership.

Approximately two-thirds of ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp's undergraduate students receive some form of financial assistance. It enrolls students from 36 states, 26 foreign countries, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. It is ranked among the top three comprehensive universities in the North in the annual rating of U.S. News and World Report.
