The in-person talk, “Hidden in Plain Sight: Acknowledging and Addressing the Impacts of Racist Incident-Based Trauma,” will take place at Alumni House at 7 p.m.
Carlota Ocampo, PhD, associate professor of psychology and provost at Trinity University in Washington, D.C., will present “Hidden in Plain Sight: Acknowledging and Addressing the Impacts of Racist Incident-Based Trauma,” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp's Alumni House. This College of Arts and Sciences' Magis Core Lecture and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies' keynote capstone event is free and open to the public.
"[This] annual lecture is held to help students understand how their liberal arts degrees prepare them to solve real world problems," said Elizabeth Petrino, PhD, professor of English and director of the Magis Core Curriculum in the College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield. "This year, the Magis Core Curriculum Committee teamed up with the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program to bring a speaker to campus whose work highlights issues of diversity, with an eye to the [Magis Core's] Social Justice signature element."
As provost at Trinity Washington University, Dr. Ocampo oversees academic affairs, assessment, and planning. She formerly served as associate provost for academic assessment, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and chair of the Psychology and Human Relations programs.
Dr. Ocampo currently serves on the national advisory board for the Steve Fund/Equity in Mental Health Framework for Students of Color in Higher Education. She is a volunteer peer evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and since 2005 has chaired or participated as a team member on accreditation reviews. Her teaching and research interests encompass interactions among diversity, structural inequity, health, and education.
