The Stags won the Northeast Conference crown for the second time in three years.

For the second time in three seasons, Fairfield Field Hockey has won the Northeast Conference Championship. The Stags defeated LIU by score of 3-1 this past Sunday, to clinch the crown after an unbeaten 7-0 run through the NEC regular season. Jolanda Richter ’22 posted a goal in both games of the Stags’ NEC tournament run, including the game-winner in the title game, en route to being named the Championship’s Most Valuable Player.

The Stags drew #17 nationally ranked Delaware in the NCAA Championship Opening Round, traveling to Newark, Del. to meet the CAA Champion Blue Hens. Fairfield fell behind 3-0 in the contest, but scored three goals in the fourth quarter – including the game-tying marker with 4.4 seconds to go – to push the game into overtime. Unfortunately, Delaware got the golden goal with under 10 seconds to play in the extra session, ending the Stags’ season with an overall record of 14-8.

Fairfield Field Hockey is led by Head Coach Jackie Kane ’87, who has led the Stags to five conference titles and NCAA postseason appearances in her 27 seasons at the helm. Coach Kane and her assistants were named the NEC Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2019 and 2021.
