Fairfield Baseball is the only unbeaten team in the nation.
¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Baseball continues to rewrite the program record books in the 2021 campaign. On the heels of a doubleheader sweep of Quinnipiac this past Wednesday, the Stags are 16-0 and stand as the last unbeaten team in the nation. Including a victory over Stetson to cap the abbreviated 2020 campaign, Fairfield has won a program-record 17 consecutive games. The Stags are ranked second in the most recent NCAA RPI, garnering a shout-out from ESPN’s Anish Shroff and Mike Rooney during a nationally televised game between Florida State and Louisville.
At the plate, Fairfield leads the MAAC and ranks among the top-5 nationally in batting average (.328), on-base percentage (.427) and slugging percentage (.530). Mike Handal ’22 slots fifth in the nation with a .444 batting average, with Justin Guerrera ’22 hitting .421 and Dan Ryan ’20 batting at a .414 clip. Guerrera has smacked a MAAC-leading eight home runs to rank second in the country in homers per game and lead Division I at .947 slugging.
The Stags’ pitching staff has been equally as dominant, leading the nation in both earned run average (2.03) and walks/hits per innings pitched (0.92). Three starting hurlers – John Signore ’19, Bryson Cafaro ’21 and Jake Noviello ’22 – also boast individual ERAs less than 1.00.
This weekend, Head Coach Bill Currier and the Stags are back on Alumni Diamond to host second-place Monmouth in a pivotal four-game conference series. The squads will play a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday with first pitch slated for noon on both days. All four games will be broadcast live on the .
