Message from the Dean

Richard A. Greenwald, PhD, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences

Richard A. Greenwald, PhD, reflects on a year of transition, perseverance, and growth in the College of Arts and Sciences.

A shining light through all of this has been the work our faculty, students, and staff have done to not just hold our community together, but to advance it.

— Richard A. Greenwald, PhD

Dear members of College of Arts and Sciences community,

We are living in eventful times. And while we have adjusted to the new realities, we remain vigilant and seek to protect the safety and well-being of all in our fold.

A shining light through all of this has been the work our faculty, students, and staff have done to not just hold our community together, but to advance it. We have continued to push the boundaries of knowledge. We have mastered Zoom and now attend classes in tents as well as our classrooms and labs. Through our partnership with the Quick Center for the Arts, we have presented leading intellectuals, thinkers, artists, and business leaders to keep our community engaged.

In short, we have done what we have always done - put our students first and adapted. We are resilient because we leaned into our 500-year Jesuit tradition of whole person education. I’m confident we will emerge stronger and more appreciative.

I wish you all the best. Stay safe and stay connected.

Richard Greenwald, PhD
