Steven and Kimberly Rockefeller ’85 have donated a Huang Yue painting to the ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Art Museum (FUAM) that will expand the museum’s permanent collection and will represent important contemporary Chinese oil painting.

Carey Mack Weber, Frank and Clara Meditz Executive Director of FUAM, recently announced the donation of Huang Yue's Song of Pond. “The new addition to our small but growing permanent collection allows us to represent contemporary Chinese oil painting in our collection," she said. "We are immensely grateful to Steven and Kimberly Rockefeller.”
The vibrant work, painted by renowned artist Huang Yue — a central figure in the development of Chinese oil painting, depicts three kingfishers hovering in the sky over a representation of the death of Buddha.
Steven and his wife Kimberly, both Class of 1985 alumni of the University and enthusiastic supporters of FUAM, said they were honored to gift the Yue painting to the museum.
“Our family has enjoyed collecting his work for almost two decades,” said Steven, “and we are confident that his spirit continues in the magnificent setting of the museum and will be a source of joy to students, faculty, and the community. In my many visits to Fairfield I have been proud to see the museum’s art collection increasing and look forward to cooperating with alumni and others in making the museum an ever more important cultural resource.”
The Rockefellers have previously supported the museum through a donation of a family-published book, and a Chinese inkstone which is now part of the museum’s teaching collection. They have also placed a unique cinnabar inkstone on long-term loan, and it is used by faculty in teaching Asian art.
