The DiMenna-Nyselius Library is actively recruiting students, staff, faculty, and alumni now through October 25.
For the fourth year running, the DiMenna-Nysellius Library will host Fairfield’s very own Human Library event, a transformative opportunity designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue.
Now through October 25, the library is looking for individuals to volunteer their time and act as 'human books’ at the event on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2019. The goal of the event is for members of the University community to share their stories as a way to break down barriers based on race, religion, sexual orientation, class, gender identity, lifestyle choices, disability, or other aspects of their life. The event is a chance for the Fairfield community to share and understand the experiences of others.
"While everyone’s experiences are different, past book volunteers have expressed a sense of camaraderie, validation, and pride that comes from meeting fellow books and sharing their stories with members of the Fairfield community,” said Lisa Thornell, Student Engagement and Outreach Librarian. “Sharing your story may help someone else who is struggling with a similar challenge.”
