¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies will host "The Magic, Science, and Promise of EMDR: Notes From the Field," October 19 – 20, 2019 at the Egan School. Early registration closes August 1.
This seminar will explore what makes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) unique. EMDR is a psychotherapy treatment used to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. This two-day workshop will push participants to look at the bigger picture of EMDR therapy, which goes beyond matters of technique and integration, and will ask participants to consider the greater possibilities of the future of EMDR. The seminar will discuss new areas of research, brain imaging, and emerging areas. At the conclusion of the seminar, participants will be able to do the following:
- Describe general conclusions reached from the recent meta-analyses on EMDR with children.
- Describe how the standard EMDR protocol can be adapted to children between ages 1-5 years old.
- Describe how EMDR was applied in the first humanitarian project, which led to the formation of HAP (Humanitarian Assistance Programs).
- Discuss other humanitarian programs applied to children and adolescents, such as the genocide in Rwanda; the Dunblane, Scotland school shooting; the Columbine High School massacre; and the Kosovo War.
- Explain how the Diagnostic Tree can be a useful metaphor for trauma-based diagnosis.
- Describe how the most recent research clarifies what is happening in the brain during EMDR.
- Utilize concepts from live EMDR Demonstrations and Personalized Case Consultation.
The seminar will be taught by EMDRIA award-winning psychologist Bob Tinker, PhD. Along with his late wife, Sandra Wilson, Tinker produced an impressive body of work as author of the video course and book, EMDR with Children, as well as training videos and numerous published chapters in books. Tinker is a researcher and expert clinician, and he has initiated humanitarian projects that led to the formation of Trauma Recovery Network/EMDR HAP.
This program is open to clinicians who are at least partially trained in EMDR. Attendees should be advised that it is recommended they complete the full EMDR basic training and have experience in using EMDR with this client population before using this material.
The workshop’s registration fee is $209 if participants register before August 1 and $249 after August 1, 2019. Nine EMDRIA credits will be awarded upon completion. Eligibility for EMDRIA Credits is restricted to those who have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training. Attendees who are partially trained in EMDR are not eligible to receive EMDRIA Credits. Attendance at the entire workshop is required to receive credits.
