Former servicemen and women interested in pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing or public administration can apply to receive up to $10,000 in financial assistance from the College of Arts and Sciences.

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp takes great pride in serving veterans of the U.S. armed forces, just as veterans take pride in having served our country. As part of the University’s commitment to helping these courageous individuals attain their educational goals, the College of Arts and Sciences is excited to offer a limited number of graduate-level veterans fellowships to former servicemen and servicewomen interested in pursuing a master’s of fine arts (MFA) in creative writing or a master’s of public administration (MPA) from ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp.
Established through the generosity of the H.W. Wilson Foundation, a philanthropic enterprise that supports educational and charitable programs dedicated to improving the mind, body, and spirit, the fellowships range from $3,000 to $10,000 and are available to veterans enrolled in the College’s MFA or MPA programs who have exhausted all or a portion of their GI Bill® educational benefits. Documentation verifying veteran and VA benefits status must be provided in order to apply, and students who are awarded a fellowship are required to re-apply for a continuation of funds each year, as continued funding is not guaranteed.

Our MPA program aims to develop policy experts who can better serve their communities, and with the addition of National Book Award-winning novelist and marine corps veteran Phil Klay to the MFA faculty, it seems like the right time for us to more deeply showcase our commitment to veterans.”
Veterans enrolled in ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s MFA in creative writing program who are interested in applying for a veterans fellowship are encouraged to send a writing sample of up to 20 pages, a one-page personal statement, and a DD214 form to Sonya Huber, MFA program director, at shuber@fairfield.edu. Veterans enrolled in Fairfield’s MPA program who are also interested in applying, are encouraged send a one-page personal statement, a copy of their current transcripts, and a DD214 form to Gayle Alberda, PhD, MPA assistant professor, at galberda@fairfield.edu.
