Looking to land a spot in the annual “Shark Tank” style entrepreneurship competition, the Fairfield StartUp Showcase? Don’t miss the Business Model Workshop on November 3.

For the seventh year in a row, student entrepreneurs from diverse academic backgrounds within arts and sciences, business, engineering, and nursing have participated in the Fairfield StartUp Entrepreneurship Program at the Dolan School of Business. If you are a student interested in gaining critical team-based experience in developing an initial business concept into a viable business plan, don’t miss the Business Model Workshop on November 3.

Starting with workshops during the fall semester and continuing throughout the year, students are mentored by experienced entrepreneurs to develop finance and marketing plans, as well as to hone critical skills in public speaking, strategic decision-making, and networking. So far this semester, students have participated in the annual StartUp Kick-Off event and Elevator Pitch Competition. The StartUp program culminates in April with the annual Showcase, where student teams present their business plans to a panel of investors for potential direct investment or sponsorship for the ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Entrepreneurship Laboratory (FUEL) Summer Fellows Program.

“The Business Model Workshop is designed to give prospective StartUp teams the help they need to compete for a spot in the annual Showcase,” said Chris Huntley, PhD, StartUp Program Director and Dolan Associate Professor. “After a quick tutorial about the nine essential business questions that every startup has to address in order to succeed, students will craft business models for their own ideas, to present to alumni mentors. It’s a fun event. Even if students don’t come with a business idea, they may just find a startup team to join.”

Students interested in learning more, or those who are serious about competing for a chance to pitch their business ideas at the StartUp Showcase in April, should attend the Business Model Workshop on Saturday, November 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dolan dining room.
