“We are super excited to show up this weekend after all of the hard work we have put in this season. In the history of our program, no team has ever made it this far and it feels awesome to represent our school on the national level. We are here to have fun and play hard, and regardless of what happens this weekend I am super proud of this group of girls. I'm thankful for our awesome coaches Jack and Eric, and for the support of our families, friends, and other fans,” said player Nelly Pskowski '20 about the upcoming game.
The Tri-State Conference championship game follows Fairfield's defeat of Stony Brook University in a thrilling semi-final match up. Fairfield's Lady Ruggers will travel this Sunday, November 4 to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on Vassar College for the conference title. The winner of this game will advance to the national tournament.
Led by Head Coach Jack Wallace, the Lady Ruggers are on a mission to clinch the final game of their undefeated season. The team roster boasts a spectrum of uniquely talented players, ranging from women who have played for many years to others who never stepped onto a rugby field before this semester. Despite varying levels of experience, they have worked hard together to make it this far.
Kate Welzel '20 talked a bit about what makes the Lady Ruggers so unique. “Our team is special because we have developed into one of the top teams in the country, yet none of the us played rugby before college. The support we have for each other and the coach’s dedication to our achievement are two of the major reasons we have been so successful. Our team is so talented, and we shocked both the conference and ourselves with our currently undefeated season. The game stats don’t lie; we have truly earned every part of this.”
¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp wants to wish our Lady Ruggers the best of luck at the Conference Championships this weekend! Stags Up!
