¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Senior’s Roundtripper Garners National Attention
In his final home game on Alumni Diamond, Drew Blake ’18 stepped to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning and cracked a two-run home run that pulled Fairfield Baseball even with visiting UMass, 4-4, in an eventual 8-4 victory for the Stags.
That scene alone from this past Tuesday’s win would make a lasting memory for the Canton, Mass. native as he prepares to wrap up his collegiate career and graduate from ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp this weekend. But Blake’s home run didn’t just soar over the wall in right field, it soared right into the hands of the lone fan watching the game from beyond the fence. That fan happened to be Kevin Blake – who also happens to be Drew Blake’s father.
“It was for sure the coolest moment in my sports career,” said Drew Blake, who will graduate on Sunday with a degree in finance. “To have my last hit at home be a home run and land in my father’s hands is both unbelievable and a perfect way to go out.”
Blake posted a video of his home run on Instagram with the caption, "One last game of catch at home with my dad." The social media post was later featured on the Tuesday evening edition of SportsCenter and the main page of MLB.com.
Blake was a member of Fairfield’s 2016 MAAC Championship team and the back-to-back MAAC Regular Season Championship squads of 2016 and 2017. He was recognized in both of those campaigns as a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team. The Stags conclude the 2018 season this week with a three-game series beginning Friday afternoon at Monmouth.
