Fairfield’s Ski and Snowboard Team Advances to National Championships

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s Ski and Snowboard team will be competing at the 40th Annual United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships in Lake Placid from March 4-10, 2018 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

“I am extremely proud of all those who qualified for nationals. This is the first year since I’ve been heading the team that the women’s alpine team has qualified, and it's the third year for the men’s team,” stated Head Coach Bart Kallgren.

At this year’s competition, more than 500 competitors from various colleges and universities across the nation will compete for National collegiate titles in alpine, nordic, and snowboard and freeski events.

“We're all very excited to be skiing at the National Championships for the third year in a row,” stated men’s alpine skier Luke Tinkham ‘18. “We believe we can finish among the top 10 teams in the country if we all ski to the best of our abilities.”

At the Championships, 10 Fairfield students will be competing. Racing for the women’s alpine will be Tess Guarino ‘18, Maggie Driscoll ‘18, Cody Ryder ‘21, and Liz Belinski ‘20. The Women’s alpine will compete in the giant slalom on March 6, slalom on March 8, and dual slalom on March 10. Racing for the men’s alpine will be Tom Summers ‘20, Luke Tinkham ‘18, Ryan Carlucci ‘18, and Brendan Cary ‘19. The men’s alpine will compete in the giant slalom March 6, slalom on March 8, and dual slalom on March 10. Paul du Toit ’21 and Brookelyn Conte ‘21 will compete in the free style events.

Kallgren continued, “With Nationals being on the east coast this year we have the advantage with course conditions with the east coast ice over those who are traveling from the west coast. It should be an exciting week of competitions. I honestly think I may be more excited than the students who are making the trip up to Lake Placid.”

The USCSA will have live video coverage of each event beginning March 6. For more information on live coverage or the daily schedule of events, please visit .
