The renowned Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet is coming to the Quick Center for the Arts for an afternoon of classical music on Sunday, February 11 for a 3 p.m. performance . There will also be a 2 p.m. lecture with the artists prior to the concert. A rare ensemble in the world of chamber music, the quartet consists of piano, violin, viola, and violoncello, instead of a more typical string quartet. In addition to classical, romantic, and modern works often found in the chamber music repertoire, the ensemble is committed to the performance of underappreciated masterpieces of over 400 works for this unique chamber ensemble structure.
The Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet was established in 1985, and unites three members of the Berliner Philharmoniker with renowned concert pianist Markus Groh. German-born, Groh has established himself as one of the most versatile pianists of his generation, having won first prize in the 1995 Queen Elisabeth Competition Brussels in Belgium. He performs worldwide, sitting with the London Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the National Symphony Washington D.C., the San Francisco Symphony, the New Japan Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the Berlin Philharmonic.
Violinist and Konzertmeister Andreas Buschatz, violist Matthew Hunter, and cellist Knut Weber, permanent members of the Berlin Philharmonic, are all masterful musicians in their own right, with more than half a century of experience and countless accolades, honors, and awards between them. The performance promises to be an inspired presentation of music written for this unique ensemble.
