Stags Explore Exciting Career Opportunities at Dow Jones

Students traveled to New York City to participate in a professional development event at Dow Jones.

This past December, ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp's Academic and Career Development Center provided students with the exciting opportunity to travel and engage in a variety of professional development programs across Connecticut and in New York City. With a focus on career advancement, internship building, and networking, Fairfield students met and worked with a wide variety of alumni and industry professionals.

On December 5, the Academic and Career Development Center's “Stags in the City” program offered one of its professional development trips during which students visited Dow Jones in New York City. There, they met with Fairfield alumni Joe Cappitelli ’89, Paul Vigna ’90, Mark Vernazza '11, and Alexis Cope ’05, to learn about the company’s career and internship opportunities.

"The experience at Dow Jones was incredible. Hearing alumni speak about why they love Fairfield and why they love Dow Jones was great," said Marissa Fitzgerald '20. "Also, seeing their success and hearing their insights and advice was very rewarding. Overall, this was a great experience and it definitely opened my eyes to what is out there."

When the students arrived, they met with the Dow Jones recruiter, who presented an overview of the company and provided helpful information on how to land and prepare for an interview. Afterward, the students participated in a panel discussion with the alumni. After describing their career paths and their positions at Dow Jones, the alumni provided helpful career advice. The afternoon concluded with a tour of the newsroom.

Reflecting on her experience, Fitzgerald stated "My biggest takeaway from the day is to take every opportunity and run with it. You never know where it is going to lead."
