Campus Merry and Bright at the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony brought a crowd of over 200 people, including students, community members, Santa, and, of course, Lucas the Stag.

“This year’s University tree lighting was a wonderful way to bring together the Fairfield community,” stated assistant director of Student Programs, Colleen Wilson. “From the current students, faculty, and staff, to our local community members and their families, the Christmas spirit was felt by all.”

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp was pleased to extend an invitation to the greater Fairfield community for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 6. A crowd of over 200 people filled the area outside of the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola, for an evening filled with music and merriment, capturing the true spirit of the holidays.

Following a welcome with hot chocolate and cookies, Rev. Mark Scalese, S.J., director of Campus Ministry, blessed the crowd and the tree. University president, Mark R. Nemec, PhD, was then joined by his family for the official lighting, complete with a giant candy cane to flip the switch. Afterwards, Fairfield’s a capella groups, Sweet Harmony and the Bensonians, performed the holiday classics “White Christmas,” “Deck the Halls,” and “12 Days of Christmas.”

“I thought that the tree lighting here at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp was beautiful and impactful,” stated student Casey McCombs ’22. “The connection between the Fairfield community and our school is remarkable, making the events held on our campus even more important.”
