¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp will officially inaugurate Mark R. Nemec, PhD, as the University’s Ninth President on Friday, October 20, 2017.
The day will start with a Mass at the Egan Chapel of Saint Ignatius Loyola at 10 a.m., followed by the Installation Ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m. on the Bellarmine Lawn. In addition to students, faculty, staff, and esteemed community members, the attendees will include presidents of universities and their representatives and the Bishop of the Bridgeport Diocese, who will preside over the Mass and give the Invocation at the beginning of the ceremony. The University invites all community members to attend.
President Nemec began his position at the beginning of July, 2017, as he and his family – including his wife Suzy, and his four children Alex, Teddy, Philip and Kit – became part of the Fairfield community. Prior to his move to Fairfield, he served as the dean of the Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies at the University of Chicago. He was also the president and chief executive officer of Eduventures, a Boston-based information services firm providing research and advice to the higher education community, and had been a member of the executive team of Forrester Research, a provider of similar services to the technology industry.
“This is an amazing community. It is evident that students, faculty, staff, the Jesuit community, parents, alumni, family, and friends are deeply engaged to life at and the core values of the University,” said President Nemec. “¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp is clearly rising – accelerating, growing, and innovating – and I am so excited to be a part of shaping its future.”
The ceremony is part of a week-long series of events for the greater University community to welcome President Nemec. On Wednesday, October 18, a student reception will be held in the new Tully Dining Commons; Thursday will begin with a staff breakfast followed by a faculty symposium at the Dolan School of Business later that afternoon.
