Stag Athletes Among Nation’s Best in Graduate Success Rate, Top the MAAC

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp is one of 24 institutions nationally with a student-athlete Graduation Success Rate of 97 percent or higher

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp student-athletes have achieved one of the highest graduation rates in the nation in the latest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) announcement from the NCAA. The Stags posted a 97 percent GSR for a four-year cohort of Stags that enrolled at Fairfield between 2007and 2010. Fairfield was one of 24 Division I schools to have a 97 percent GSR or higher among freshmen who enrolled in 2010.

"Our GSR score shows the commitment our student-athletes have in the classroom," Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann said. "I also appreciate the support that comes from our coaches, faculty, staff, and administration in helping our student-athletes achieve their academic goals."

Fairfield owned the highest GSR in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with Manhattan College placing second at 94 percent. The MAAC was tied for the fourth-highest score among 31 Division I conferences.

Eleven varsity athletics programs at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp achieved a 100 percent graduation rate based on the current information: field hockey, men's golf, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, men's soccer, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and volleyball.

The NCAA began compiling data with the entering freshman class of 1995 and developed the GSR in order to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The GSR includes incoming transfer students and student-athletes who transfer out while in good academic standing. The GSR measures graduation over six years from initial college enrollment.
