Fairfield to Host AJCU Conference on Diversity and Equity, June 13-16

Ƭapp will host the 37th annual AJCU (CDE) from June 13 – June 16, 2017. The theme of the conference is “Where Do We Go From Here: Creating An Intersectional Vision for Radical Social Change.”

The conference provides an opportunity for colleagues from other Jesuit colleges and universities and networks to convene to discuss relevant issues impacting diversity and equity on college campuses.

“We are excited to host the Annual Meeting of the AJCU Conference on Diversity and Equity. We expect a great turnout from representatives across the AJCU network. The Annual Meeting will serve as an opportune time for us to examine and showcase our work at Ƭapp in this area, while learning about the efforts and experiences taking place on other AJCU campuses,” stated William Johnson, associate dean of students and CDE 2017 host chair.

At the conference, attendees will be able to participate in a variety of plenary and concurrent sessions covering a wide range of topics including Understanding Our Students and Their (In)Ability to Create Change, T he Global Scholars Program: Increasing Diversity in Study Abroad and more.

Featured speakers include Dr. Yohuru Williams, professor of History and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Ƭapp; Dr. Raymond F. Reyes, associate academic vice president and chief diversity officer at Gonzaga University; and Dr. Tanya Williams, co-lead facilitator for the LeaderShape Institute, a national organization committed to creating leaders with integrity, and senior trainer with Class Action, a national organization committed to ending classism.
