SoccerGrlProbs at the StartUp Showcase - April 6

On April 6, 2017 Fairfield alumnae and founders of will return to campus as guest speakers at the 6 th annual Fairfield StartUp Showcase at the Quick Center. Free and open to the public, the Showcase is the University’s annual entrepreneurship competition where students negotiate live with investors for seed money to start their businesses.

Alumnae Carly Beyar ’14, Shannon Fay ’14 and Alanna Locast ’12 created the SoccerGrlProbs Twitter account in 2011 as a creative outlet for them and their fellow teammates on the Women’s Soccer Team to express the trials and tribulations of being a collegiate athlete. What started as a tweet quickly grew into an international lifestyle brand dedicated to supporting and encouraging the well-being and positive self-image of young female athletes everywhere.

A former client of the University’s incubator, FUEL (¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp Entrepreneurship Lab), the company has seen global success through their social media, clothing line and an upcoming book release.

"SoccerGrlProbs started at FUEL and in little over a year, they completely redesigned and rebuilt their website, fleshed out their catalog with lots of great t-shirts and other items, expanded their social media presence to engage with their fans and formed lasting relationships with professional players and teams that they would need going forward,” said Chris Huntley, associate professor and program director of Fairfield StartUp. “By the end of their time with us they were making regular appearances on Canadian television for the Women’s World Cup and negotiating business deals with Google, Gatorade and other household names. I could not be prouder about what they have done and what they represent."

At the Showcase Beyar, Fay and Locast will talk about the evolution of SoccerGrlProbs, what they’ve learned along the way and their goals for the future.

"Every time we return to Fairfield, we are overcome with nostalgia; remembering where we came from and how much this place has allowed us to grow,” explained Team SoccerGrlProbs. “We're excited to speak and share our journey with everyone, as well as learn from the other businesses!"

Reserve your seat at the Showcase today.
