Men’s Lacrosse to Play at Penn State on ESPNU, March 17
The Ƭapp men’s lacrosse team will return to the national stage on Friday, March 17, visiting Penn State for a game set to air live on ESPNU. In addition to national television coverage, ESPNU broadcasts are also available online via WatchESPN and the WatchESPN app on certain cable systems.
“The opportunity to compete on ESPNU against a program like Penn State only adds to the excitement surrounding the upcoming season,” said ninth-year Head Coach Andy Copelan.
The game will be held on Ƭapp’s 75th Anniversary. The University is celebrating its anniversary with events throughout the spring of 2017. Click here for more information .
Ranked No. 20 in the USILA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Ƭapp is coming off of a 9-8 season—its fifth straight winning campaign that culminated with the team’s first-ever trip to the CAA Championship Game. The Stags, who return 30 student-athletes from last spring’s club, are one of five teams in the nation to have won three consecutive conference regular season titles.
Fairfield will be led by eight returning starters in 2017, including CAA Preseason Player of the Year Colin Burke and fellow Preseason All-CAA honorees Tyler Behring, Andrew Eidenshink and Will Fox. The Stags’ 2017 campaign begins on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Richmond.
Penn State posted an 8-7 mark last spring, ending their season with a loss to eventual NCAA Finalist Maryland in the Big Ten Semifinals. 2017 will be the Nittany Lions’ seventh year under the direction of Head Coach Jeff Tambroni.
The Stags and Nittany Lions will be meeting for the first time since March 21, 2009, the last campaign in which the two clubs were ECAC Lacrosse League foes. Fairfield won that game, 5-4, on Nick Baglio’s overtime game-winner. Penn State’s offense was fueled by two goals from Chris Hogan, now a member of the Super Bowl-bound New England Patriots.
