The Met: Live in HD Hansel and Gretel

Tuesday, December 12 at 1 p.m. at the Quick Center for the Arts

In celebration of the holidays, the Quick Center for the Arts presents The Met: Live in HD broadcast of Engelbert Humperdinck's fantastical adaptation of Hansel and Gretel on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Quick Center for the Arts.

Richard Jones’ spectacular adaptation of the nearly 125-year-old opera, Hansel & Gretel, features delightful scenery and a stellar cast. According to the Met, "the drama moves from the real, through the obscure, and into the unreal and fantastical." Originally conceived as an entertaining small-scale vocal performance for children, darker features present in the Brothers Grimm version of the familiar folktale persist, yet Humperdinck presents them with charm, grace, and humor. Jones walks Humperdinck's line, exaggerating the playfulness of the folklore with storybook scenery and masterful direction.

A special holiday luncheon at 12:15 p.m. will precede the Hansel and Gretel performance, to be screened in HD.

Tickets are $40, which includes the luncheon and screening. For more information or to reserve your seat, visit or call the box office at 203-254-4010 or toll free at 1-877-ARTS-396.
