Child Mental Health and the Compassionate Classroom: What Every Educator Should Know

Complimentary professional development workshop.

On Thursday, January 18, 2018, the Graduate School of Education and Allied Professions (GSEAP) will host a complimentary professional development workshop for educators, school administrators, pupil support personnel, school-based mental health workers, pre-service teachers, and parents, entitled, "Child Mental Health and the Compassionate Classroom: What Every Educator Should Know."

Join Evelyn Bilias Lolis, PhD, assistant professor for the Department of Psychological and Educational Consultation in the GSEAP, for this seminar-style workshop. Participants will explore the current landscape of child mental health today amidst the pressures of a complex and changing society. They will also gain an overview of the behaviors that may suggest risk for mental health difficulties from early childhood to late adolescence and the role of the school in supporting student resilience, emotional resolve, and healthy coping.

Dr. Bilias Lolis will deliver practical strategies for applying numerous principles of positive psychology (i.e., the psychology of wellbeing) for the classroom through simple interventions that can assist in creating climates of compassion, mental wellness, esteem, educational vitality, and authentic learning.
