Largest Ever Applicant Pool for Fairfield's Open House

For two weekends in a row, Fairfield’s campus has been buzzing with excitement and celebration as the Office of Undergraduate Admission welcomed thousands of future Stags for Ƭapp in Focus , a series of consecutive annual open house events held exclusively for accepted students and their families.

On April 2 and April 9, nearly 3,500 prospective students and parents traveled from as far as California and Puerto Rico to learn more about the Fairfield experience, as well as the many services, learning facilities and opportunities available to students. In addition to meeting with professors and deans from each of the University’s schools, students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun and informative activities including campus and residence hall tours, student life and services fairs, athletic events and interactive panels with current undergraduates.

“It was great to see how the entire University community was out in force to welcome the prospective members of the Class of 2021,” said Karen Pellegrino, vice president for enrollment management. “Throughout the day, prospective students and their parents commented on the warmth of the welcome and the genuine care that set Fairfield apart from the other schools they visited.”

One major highlight of the two weekends was the completion of the Ƭapp Mosaic Project, a unique and exciting recruitment initiative spearheaded by the Office of Undergraduate Admission and the Marketing and Communications Department to welcome the Class of 2021. Inspired by the idea that Fairfield’s campus community functions like a mosaic – a group of individuals that create something beautiful when they come together in unity – the University worked with the social media company Luster to begin production on a large, Instagram-generated mosaic.

In the months leading up to the Ƭapp in Focus events, faculty, staff, students, and alumni all pitched in to snap, share and piece together hundreds of their favorite Fairfield photos onto a large community canvas, making sure they saved a enough spots for the incoming class to fill in. The creative process was filmed from start to finish and highlighted in a Class of 2021 admission video that welcomed this year’s accepted students as the newest pieces in Fairfield’s community mosaic. On April 2 and 9, prospective students were invited to complete the project by snapping their own photos and adding them to the collage. The result was an 8.5 foot by 6 foot community mosaic composed of thousands of individual Fairfield memories that not only create a rendering of Bellarmine Hall, but an artistic symbol of the strength of vibrancy of the campus community.
