Women’s Soccer Celebrates 25 Years of Program History

On Saturday, September 17, the Friends of Women’s Soccer hosted a reception in celebration of 25 years of program history. A group of over 80 alumni, parents and student-athletes gathered at Alumni House to honor the past and reconnect before the team faced off against Canisius at Lessing Field.

“We were very excited to host 25 years of former student-athletes on campus this past Saturday,” said Jim O'Brien, Head Coach of Women’s Soccer. “I am humbled to be part of a program so rich in history and tradition and was very grateful to see so many alumnae return to campus. We had a full day of festivities planned along with our first MAAC match of the season. The current team is always motivated to put forth a strong showing in front of a crowd who bleeds Fairfield red.”

The event kicked off with greetings from Marie Muhvic, associate director of Athletics, director of development for Athletics & Recreation. Coach O’Brien, who is currently in his 12th season at the helm, shared his remarks as did Director of Athletics Gene Doris.

Alumni representing all eras of the program’s history joined the festivities, including alumna Kristin Herman ’96, who was a member of the first varsity program on campus. “It's always great to come back and see how far the program has come over the past 25 years. It really makes me proud to be a Fairfield alumna and to say I played here as well,” Herman said. “I have fond memories of practices on the field, our loyal fans, supportive parents and, of course, the infamous ‘couch crew’!”
