Fairfield Announces Partnership with Norma Pfriem Breast Center

¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp Athletics has established a partnership with the Norma Pfriem Breast Center to raise funds for the organization throughout the 2016 -17 school year. A minimum of nine athletic events throughout the school year will include the sale of special edition “Herd to a Cure” t-shirts, which will be on sale for $10.00. All proceeds from the sale of the t-shirts will benefit the Center.

The Norma Pfriem Breast Center’s mission is “to achieve excellence in breast care through education, screening, diagnosis and expert medical treatment of diseases of the breast.” Excellent care and comprehensive services are provided through a multidisciplinary team including oncologists, health and wellness providers, a naturopathic physician, professional nursing staff, surgeons, social workers and counselors. The Breast Center also offers a comprehensive program of wellness services at its expanded facility in Fairfield. Symptom management and services to help alleviate both physical and emotional side effects of treatment, are also offered.

“Fairfield Athletics is honored to work with the Norma Pfriem Breast Center for the 2016-17 school year,” said Zach Dayton, senior associate athletics director for marketing and communications. “This partnership will connect our student-athletes to a fantastic local organization and create a unique game day experience.”

The first four athletic contests that have been designated as “Herd to a Cure” games include:

Sun. October 9: Fairfield Field Hockey vs. Villanova, 12pm at University Field
Sat. October 15: Fairfield Volleyball vs. Siena, 1pm at Alumni Hall
Sat. October 15: Fairfield Men’s Soccer vs. Niagara, 7pm at Lessing Field
Sat. October 19: Fairfield Women’s Soccer vs. Monmouth, 7pm at Lessing Field

The partnership was highlighted at the annual “Stroll for Strength” event on September 29, which started at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center, 111 Beach Road, Fairfield, and concluded at Fairfield’s downtown Sherman Green. Participants included Lucas the Stag decked in pink while accompanied by the Fairfield’s spirit squads and student-athletes who walked with members of the community. The evening serves as a springboard for the 2 nd Annual Pink Pledge , which is a month long, community-wide awareness and fundraising campaign to benefit Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Funds raised through Pink Pledge enable the Center to continue to provide medical excellence and compassionate care to all women, regardless of their ability to pay.

Norma Pfriem Breast Center was the first freestanding community breast center in Connecticut to offer one-stop coordination of care, patient navigation and rapid diagnosis. The Center is one of only 500 centers nationwide accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and is a member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers.
