Stags Set to Host 2016 MAAC Championship
The 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Championship will be at Alumni Hall from Nov. 18-20, and the ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp volleyball team is poised to be one of the conference’s postseason favorites. With five MAAC contests remaining before the tournament, the Stags sit atop the conference standings at 13-0 as part of 20-5 overall record.
This weekend, Fairfield begins the stretch run as Rider and Saint Peter’s come to Alumni Hall for a pair of conference clashes on Oct. 29 and 30. First serve in both outings on George Bisacca Court is slated for 1 p.m.
After road victories at Iona and Manhattan this past weekend, ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp is riding a 14-match winning streak – the third-longest active streak in the nation. The Stags’ 24 consecutive wins over MAAC opponents dating back to last fall (including postseason) represent Division I's fifth-longest active stretch against conference foes. In addition, Fairfield’s 3-1 victory at Manhattan on Sunday locked up the 14th 20-win season in program history and the fifth in seven campaigns led by Head Coach Todd Kress.
With one more conference win, the Stags would clinch at least a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship. Fairfield can claim the outright regular season title with victories over both the visiting Broncs and Peacocks this weekend. The Stags have won 15 MAAC regular season titles since 1996, including the 2015 crown en route to earning their eighth MAAC Championship and NCAA postseason bid.
