RecPlex Offers Host of Workout Options

On the heels of its Sept. 2 grand opening, the Leslie C. Quick Jr. Recreation Complex — the RecPlex — continues to broaden the scope of its offerings, providing students and faculty with a host of equipment, class and workout options to suit their various needs.

The facility features state-of-the-art cardio and strength-building equipment, as well as a range of instructed fitness classes, including aqua Zumba, Strong by Zumba, strength and conditioning, yoga and spin classes. There are currently 51 classes offered each week taught by 15 University students who are certified instructors.

Those interested in participating in classes can sign up on a per class basis on the , which displays all of the classes and times offered. Members can also download the Rec*It Fitness app to view and register for classes.

The RecPlex features a revamped Birkenstock Field House with interchangeable basketball, tennis and volleyball courts. Also available are cardio training suites, an elevated indoor track, racquetball court, improved infrastructure on the twenty-five-meter pool and renovated locker rooms.

With membership options available to University faculty, staff, graduate and part-time students, as well as alumni and Fairfield Prep students, members are allowed use of the facility and its basic functions during normal hours of operation, except for special occasions where the facility may be restricted due to University events or programs, maintenance, or other reasons. Fitness classes or other special programs through Fairfield Fit are limited on the basis of availability. All memberships are now available for purchase online .

While the new RecPlex seems to offer something for everyone, Elizabeth Blagys, program coordinator for the Department of Recreation at Fairfield, says that there seems to be some favorites among the Fairfield community. “The spinning classes have been very popular with both faculty, staff and students. The new Strength and Conditioning area  — previously known as the weight room — is also very well used by both male and female students.”
