Fairfield Celebrates Scholarship with 29th Annual Awards Dinner

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp's 29th Annual Fairfield Awards Dinner, "Celebrating a Tradition of Opportunity," will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at the Grand Hyatt New York in New York City.

The Fairfield Awards Dinner benefits ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s Multicultural Scholarship Fund and other scholarships that expand access to higher education to students from a variety of social and economic backgrounds.

Held annually since 1989, the Fairfield Awards Dinner has raised more than $16 million for the endowed ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Multicultural Scholarship Fund and other scholarships, providing support to hundreds of students.

Fairfield Awards Dinner Co-Chairs are Timothy E. Lane ’85, P’16 of Montvale, NJ, who is a managing director at TIAA-CREF and William A. Malloy ’80, P’17,’11 of New York, NY, who serves as partner at Aquiline Capital Partners LLC.

The Fairfield Awards Dinner will also recognize alumni, faculty and staff for the highest levels of professional achievement, outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and meritorious service. The 2017 dinner honorees are:

Alumni Professional Achievement Award : Douglas W. Hammond ’86
After graduating with a degree in politics, Dolan School of Business Advisory Board member Douglas Hammond ’86 went on to complete his Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law. Doug is the chairman and chief executive officer of NFP, a leading insurance broker and consultant that provides employee benefits, property & casualty, retirement and individual insurance and wealth management solutions. With NFP since 1999, Doug has held multiple leadership roles, including chief operating officer and general counsel. Under his leadership, NFP has grown to over $1.2 billion in revenue and is recognized by Business Insurance as the fifth largest global benefits broker by revenue and the fourth largest US-based privately owned broker. He lives in Cold Spring Harbor, NY, with his wife Trish and four children, John, Will, Joe and Ava.

Alumni Service Award: Robert M. McMahon ’87, P’20, is being recognized for his many years of volunteer leadership and effort on behalf of ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp including: Friends of Soccer, Parent Leadership Council, Reunion Volunteer, Dolan School of Business career mentor, former member Trustee Advisory Council and DSB Advisory board. Rob’s wife, Kristin ’87, serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.  They live in Fairfield, Conn. with their daughters, Elisabeth, a first year student at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp, and Emma.

Distinguished Faculty/Administrator Award: Dr. Katherine A. Schwab, professor of Visual and Performing Arts since 1988, has her PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. She has served as department chair for two consecutive terms, and has served as Art History program director for several years. Her areas of expertise and interest encompass Greek and Roman Art and Archaeology, as well as South Asian and Asian Art. As curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Plaster Cast Collection at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp, Dr. Schwab oversees and works with students on a growing cast collection of gifts and long-term renewable loans from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as gifts from individual donors. She is a resident of Fairfield, Conn.

Parent Leadership Award: Stephen J. and Susan F. Meszkat P’08 of New Canaan, Conn., are the parents of Stephen Meszkat Jr. ’08 who tragically passed away in 2011. Since their son’s passing, they have both been actively involved in honoring their son’s life through their passion for Fairfield. They have tirelessly supported scholarship by organizing the annual Stephen J. Meszkat Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament, the proceeds of which support both ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp as well as the Varsity Crew Team at the Salisbury School.
