Friends of Lacrosse Honored with Dedicated Plaque

In April, the Friends of Fairfield Men’s and Women’s lacrosse held a special ceremony for athletic donors. Patrons who gave $5,000 or more to the project were honored as well as the Alumni Board leadership in recognition of the Alumni Association ’s generous contribution to the project. Their generosity is commemorated with a plaque affixed to the home grandstand. Following the women’s lacrosse win over Siena, the event kicked-off with remarks from ¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp's Director of Athletics, Gene Doris.

“As a member of the NCAA Division I lacrosse committee, I have seen many lacrosse stadiums and I can tell you that this facility is right at the top of any list,” Doris said. “On behalf of the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs as well as the department of athletics, I want to express my appreciation for the generosity of so many who have answered our call. Your enthusiasm for our lacrosse programs has translated into ¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp making its mark on the national scene, a place I know we will continue to keep company for many years to come.”

¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp President Rev. Jeffery P. von Arx, S.J. was also on hand to share a few words and to bless the plaques. “Today, we come together once again as a family to celebrate the generosity of so many who have continued to support our lacrosse programs and ¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp. While Rafferty Stadium is the home of ¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp lacrosse, the facility has also offered local high school and youth programs an opportunity to share this stage, which in turn fosters the same ambition and promise that our own student-athletes exemplify each year.”

Representing the generous donors to the project were Alumni Board President Shannon (Barry) Siwinski '92, P'16, former Alumni Board President Maureen Bujno '90 and current University Trustee Brian Hull '80, P’13, a four-year member of the lacrosse team and longtime supporter of Fairfield and the lacrosse program. Following the dedication, over 40 alumni, parents and Friends of lacrosse gathered at a tented reception prior to the men’s lacrosse match-up versus Drexel.
