TJ Neubauer Selected in MLL Collegiate Draft
TJ Neubauer '16 of the ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp men’s lacrosse team was selected as the 34th overall pick in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft by the Rochester Rattlers. Neubauer is the 18th Stag to be drafted or signed into the MLL ranks and the ninth to have played for Head Coach Andy Copelan at Fairfield.
A fourth round selection of the Rattlers, Neubauer is the Stags’ highest-drafted player (in the MLL Collegiate Draft) since Greg Downing ’07 was the sixth overall pick – the only first round choice in program history – of the Los Angeles Riptide in 2007.
Neubauer enters his senior season with the Stags this spring as a two-year team captain and an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Honorable Mention. He earned First Team All-CAA and First Team All-New England honors in 2015 after heading the offense as the Stags’ leading scorer for the second straight season. He scored 31 goals last season to move into ninth place on the Stags’ all-time list with 78 career markers and also handed out three assists and ranked second on the team with 49 ground balls. Neubauer and the Stags won the CAA regular season championship last spring in their first season as members of the nationally-prominent conference.
Receiving votes in the USILA Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Neubauer and the Stags open the 2016 campaign on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on Saturday, Feb. 13 with the first-ever meeting with Richmond. The noon contest is the front-end of a doubleheader that will also feature reigning MAAC Champion Fairfield women’s lacrosse beginning its 2016 season against LIU Brooklyn.
