Fairfield Basketball to Celebrate Education Day on Sunday

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Basketball will celebrate Education Day this Sunday, Feb. 7 as part of the men’s and women’s doubleheader at Webster Bank Arena. Participants in several ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp initiatives, as well as students from local elementary and secondary schools, will be recognized throughout the afternoon.

  • In 2015, the partnered with Fairfield Athletics and Hoops4Hope to launch in support of student achievement in southern Connecticut. Throughout the past year, students in grades K-8 have nominated mentors who have encouraged their success in sports and school as part of the Mentor4Life contest. These mentors and the students who have submitted nominations will be honored on Sunday.
  • During the doubleheader, the Stags will also recognize the participants in the Bassick College Model Partnership. Through a partnership with ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s , Bassick High School teachers have been holding regularly scheduled Friday classes in classrooms at the University. The program was formed with the goal of introducing Bridgeport high school students to a collegiate learning environment.
  • As part of a schoolwide initiative, Riverfield School of Fairfield has been participating in . The three classes that have collected the most box tops will be recognized during the action at Webster Bank Arena.
  • In addition, all students that recorded perfect attendance in the month of January at the Discovery Magnet School and Achievement First Bridgeport Academy will be visited by Lucas the Stag this week to receive a complimentary ticket to the doubleheader.

The action on the court begins at 1 p.m. with Fairfield women’s basketball challenging Siena. Head Coach Joe Frager's Stags, who will also be hosting Niagara on Friday, Feb. 5 at Alumni Hall, are currently riding a three-game winning streak to bolster their record to 11-10 overall and an even 6-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Fairfield men’s basketball then welcomes Manhattan to Webster Bank Arena at 3:30 p.m. The Stags head into the weekend, which includes a Friday evening trip to first-place Monmouth, with a 12-10 overall record and 6-6 MAAC tally in their fifth season under the direction of Head Coach Sydney Johnson.
