Looking for an Internship? Check out the Career Planning Center

With summer fast approaching, many students are in search of internships. The Career Planning Center at ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp offers many services and workshops to assist students secure internships and employment after graduation.

With nearly one-third of all Fortune 500 companies and numerous agencies stationed between Fairfield and New York, there are numerous opportunities available to Fairfield students. Internships are a great way for students to make connections with people within their industry, exposing them to a possible post-grad career. In addition to traditional internships, the Career Planning Center offers numerous opportunities to students including Job Shadow Day, on-campus recruiting and Stags4Hire.

It is through these opportunities that students are able to get real-world experience and build relationships with industry connections that frequently result in offered positions within the company where they interned. Alumnus, Andrew Tropeano’15, is one such example. Tropeano interned during the summer and fall of 2015 at Revelry Agency in Fairfield, CT after applying for the position on Stags4Hire. “I felt that all of this hands-on experience would have prepared me very well for any job I might have landed after graduation, and it certainly left me well prepared for my current full-time position at Revelry Agency,” said Tropeano.

This semester, senior Allison Kopp ‘16 began her internship at Revelry Agency with Tropeano. At Revelry, Kopp was able to get hands on marketing experience. “My experience at Revelry Agency has been invaluable. I have learned so much about working for an agency and balancing clients, marketing and appealing to diverse consumers, and understanding Public Relations and Marketing online tools,” noted Kopp. “When interviewing for future jobs, I was able to talk in detail about my various tasks and responsibilities at Revelry. I have learned something different from each of the people I work with and each client that I've worked on.”

During a recent webinar, Cath Borgman, director of Career Planning, suggested students do the following during an internship:

  • Dress appropriately
  • Treat feedback as a gift and adjust accordingly
  • Use time wisely and always meet deadlines
  • Have an updated resume with you at all times
  • Do not only associate with interns. Try to meet as many employees as possible and develop a professional brand among the staff
