Why PR Matters: A “Major” Conversation on the New Program Oct. 6

There’s definitely buzz surrounding the launch of the new public relations major in the College of Arts and Sciences – and on Tuesday, October 6, students and the wider community are invited to a special event highlighting the opportunities it offers.

The panel presentation, titled “Why PR Matters: A Major Conversation,” will be held in the Kelley Center Presentation Room at 6:30 p.m., with a reception following at 8 p.m. Four prominent PR experts will be on hand to share their perspectives on what it takes to work and thrive in the public relations profession.

“We are so excited to mark the historic launch of this dynamic new major with such a distinguished group of professionals who will reflect on the future of the industry,” said Dr. David Gudelunas, associate professor of the College of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of communication.

Panelists include Tracy Benson, founder and CEO of On the Same Page; AnnMarie Kemp, vice president of public relations at Cronin & Co.; Robert Libbey, head of digital and social communications at Pfizer, Inc.; and Barbara Puffer, founder and president of Puffer Public Relations.

Dr. Gudelunas said the event would be an opportunity for students, faculty, and public relations professionals to come together in a meaningful way. “This event will be a great networking moment and a chance for our students to explore career and internship opportunities. Public relations is a job area that we know will be experiencing growth in the coming years, and we are thrilled that this new major will help prepare students for a variety of career opportunities in corporate and nonprofit PR, social media jobs, multicultural relations, event planning, and a host of other professions.”
