Children’s Author Jan Brett at Fairfield Bookstore, Nov. 28
New York Times #1 Best Selling Author/Artist, Jan Brett, will be at the downtown ¶¶Ňô»ĆƬapp Bookstore, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 5:00pm to give a drawing demonstration followed by a book signing. Her touring bus will be parked outside the Bookstore one hour prior to the event. Most recently, Brett wrote an original twist to a favorite folktale The Turnip - With over 40 million books in print.
Brett's exquisite art is universally recognized as being among the finest in children’s books today. Everyone is welcome to take a picture in front of the bus, which is wrapped with The Turnip book cover image. Line tickets go on sale at the Bookstore beginning Monday November 3, 2015 at 9:00am with book purchase. The first 100 line tickets guarantee a signing by the author.
The Turnip (G.P. Putnam’s Sons) is a rollicking tale of eight animals struggling to pull up a giant turnip from the garden as winter sets in. Badger Girl finds the giant turnip in the garden, but she can’t pull it up alone. One by one her brother, mother, and father try, followed by Hedgie, Mr. Ram, and Dapple Grey, the horse. No one can budge it. Then, a cocky rooster brags that he can and steps up to try. He goes flying through the air holding the turnip and everyone is astonished. Little do they know that the mama bear who has been moving through the borders with her two cubs has kicked the turnip out of her underground den so she and her cubs will have more room to sleep through winter.
Brett, famous for taking extensive research trips to all corners of the globe for her books, traveled to Russia for The Turnip . Her close study of the countryside has resulted in colorful folk art patterns in her signature borders and Russian 
folk style clothes on the animals.
