While many students are relaxing at home or on vacation during spring break this year during the second week of March, others are preparing for a different kind of trip: serving others!
During Fairfield’s spring break this year (March 9-13), eight different groups of students will be traveling around the country and as far away as Nicaragua to experience different cultures and environments, learning about social justice and issues stemming from poverty and injustice. Each group of 8-12 students will be led by two staff/faculty members. Students raise funds to supplement travel costs.
“Amazing Break” Trips
Through Campus Ministry, preparations are underway for trips to Kentucky, California, New Mexico, and Arizona. .
Alternate Spring Break Immersion Trips
Four other groups will travel to New Orleans, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, and Nicaragua. These trips are coordinated through the Center for Faith & Public Life, with the Office of Service Learning and JUHAN. !
No matter where they go, students find the “alternate” spring break experience to be life-changing. Perhaps your son or daughter might be interested in participating next year! Information sessions are held in each fall.
“One of the best decisions of my time at Fairfield U was applying to attend this trip and actually getting accepted into the program. I learned so much—not just about various NGOs, politicians, etc., but also about my own possible future.” - Participant, Spring 2014 Washington, DC, Immersion trip
