14th Annual Midnight Breakfast Kicks Off Finals Week
Midnight Breakfast is a tradition here at Fairfield. It is a tradition all students, from freshmen to seniors eagerly await every fall semester, and serves as both a highlight of the holiday celebrations and marks the beginning of finals week. Midnight Breakfast is so popular with students that for this year's event on Dec. 7, the University added an additional 100 spots for students who were not able to get a ticket to the sold out 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. seatings.
“Midnight Breakfast is always a great way to relieve stress before finals and get in the Christmas spirit,” said Briana Mullaney ’17. The purpose of Midnight Breakfast is to help raise student morale, lower stress, and to allow students to have one final blowout with their friends before winter break.
This year, students were able to listen to a live performance of The Lion Fish Band, as they waited in line for the main event. Once upstairs and seated, President Jeffrey von Arx, S.J. came around to each table to say hello and wish students good luck with their upcoming exams.
“Everyone gets dressed up in Christmas themed attire and the Christmas carols put everyone in a great mood!” said Colleen Sheridan ‘17. Students dressed in Santa hats and costumes, holiday themed pajamas, and elf costumes could be seen feasting, dancing and singing with their friends and professors. However, the real party did not begin until Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas came on and students jumped up from their seats to sing along with their friends.
The event is planned by the hardworking and dedicated staff at the Office of Student Engagement with the collaboration of many volunteers including faculty, staff, administration, the University's Sodexho caterers, and the Office of the Dean of Students. “I enjoy seeing Fairfield students coming together as a large community. It is wonderful to see all of the holiday spirit that they bring to the event,” said Colleen Wilson, Associate Director of Student Programs, “It is also wonderful to see how many volunteers come out to serve at the event. We had 70 staff representatives from Academics, Student Affairs, Dean of Students, Athletics, Marketing, Career Planning, the Library, and Alumni Relations, which is something that I love to see every year.”
