Fairfield's Recovery House Program Receives Ignatian Medal

¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s Recovery House was honored with the Ignatian Medal for Campus Program of the Year this past weekend at the annual JASPA (Jesuit Association of Student Personnel Administrators) Conference in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Recovery House was launched this past September and is the latest addition to the ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp Recovery Program. Located within walking distance of campus, this is a home for male students in recovery from addiction. It offers an independent living environment with fully integrated support services, recovery coaching, and access to many recreational activities and special events. Recovery House was the first of its kind both in the State of Connecticut as well as within the AJCU network. A number of Jesuit colleges and universities have approached ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp this year in the hopes of replicating a program on their campuses.

"Our program has been a great success this year, garnering interest from both current and prospective students. We hope to build upon this success by offering a similar opportunity for female students in the very near future," said Dr. Thomas C. Pellegrino, Vice President for Student Affairs. "There are many people responsible for the Ignatian Medal received by ¶¶Òô»ÆƬapp’s Recovery House.  While this is an incomplete list, I want to recognize and thank Lisa Arnold, Susan Birge, Thomas Corona, Dawn DeBiase, Karen Donoghue, Rev. Paul Holland, S.J., Pam Paulmann, and Ophelia Rowe-Allen in making Recovery House a reality. I also want to extend a note of thanks to alumnus Charles Smith for his generous support of the program and the guidance he has provided us.  Finally and most importantly, I want to congratulate the student residents of Recovery House, both present and future.  This is their award.  It reflects not only their individual accomplishments but the critical support they provide each other.  Please join me in congratulating all of them on this special recognition from JASPA."
