Ƭapp Commemorates 9/11 with “Day of Remembrance”
On Wednesday, September 11, 2013, Ƭapp will hold a “ Day of Remembrance,” with events that include a Memorial Mass, at 12:10 p.m. offered by Father Charles Allen, S.J.,at the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola. Hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations, Ƭapp remembers all the victims of 9/11, but in a special way, we will recall our alumni who perished on this day, and the family and friends who mourn their passing. An Interfaith Prayer Service takes place at 4:30 p.m., at Egan Chapel Of St. Ignatius Loyola. It will include readings, music, and a re-dedication of the Peace Pole located on campus directly behind the chapel. Peace Poles are now recognized as the most prominent international symbol and monument to peace. Peace Poles bear the message, “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in the languages of the world. Campus Ministry, the Center for Faith and Public Life, the Muslim Student Association, the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies, Peace and Justice Studies, and the Office of Jesuit Mission are co-sponsors of this event.
An on-campus memorial (pictured) is situated in the front of Ƭapp’s Alumni House. It commemorates the 14 Ƭapp alumni who tragically lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The Memorial also includes a section of a steel beam that was once part of the original World Trade Center in New York City.
