Men's Tennis Beat Colgate
The Fairfield men's tennis team came out on top with a 4-3 win over Colgate last Saturday at the Stamford Indoor Courts. Freshman Ofir Solomon and sophomore George Tioutine led the team with two victories on the night, while Cameron Amyot clinched the win for the Stags (3-1).
The Fairfield doubles teams swept the Raiders as senior captain Erik Kremheller and Tioutine started off by defeating the duo of Berkowitz/Haile, 8-2. The point was clinched with an 8-3 win in the one spot by Dennis Zlobinsky and Ofir Solomon over Ginsburg/Jewett.
The Stags entered singles play with the lone doubles point, Solomon added onto the lead with a two-set victory at No. 5 singles over Mark Pronchik, 6-2, 6-0. Colgate then came back with two wins in the two and six spots, tying the overall score.
Tioutine was next to finish as the Stags regained the lead with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over the Raider's Alan Plent followed by Amyot who clinched the match. The sophomore played in the No. 4 spot, beat Archer McFall, 7-5, 6-4.
The men's tennis team will next face Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, N.J. on February 8 at 1:30pm.
