Kabbalat Shabbat Services at Bennett Center for Judaic Studies

Friday night Shabbat services are arguably one of the most beautiful and serene traditions of the Jewish faith, a time when families and friends gather to reflect on the week, give thanks for their blessings, and welcome the Sabbath with song and prayer.

So the Fairfield community is fortunate that the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies has been offering monthly Kabbalat Shabbat services, open to anyone who would like to experience the joy and serenity of these Friday evening services. The next service will be held on Friday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Interfaith prayer space at 42 Bellarmine Rd., and will be led by Rabbi Suri Krieger.

“I think that the Shabbat services have been a great addition to the events on campus,” notes Laura Stakey’14, who has attended the service since working as an intern in the Bennett Center. “Not only do they provide a service for those who are Jewish, but it is also an opportunity for people who aren't Jewish to experience something unfamiliar. Personally, I had never been to a Shabbat service before I went to one on campus.”

Services are free, and anyone wishing to stay for dinner immediately following (free for students; $15 for faculty, staff, and community members) is welcome. Reservations are required for the dinner; please call Elaine Bowman at ext. 2066 to reserve a seat.
